Located at 443 Coldharbour Lane, Market House is considered a Brixton landmark and has seen various incarnations over the years, most notably as the Coach & Horses pub dating back to 1881.
In September last year, Market House closed and was subsequently relaunched as Indian restaurant Karakana. However, the venture was short lived and the site has now been acquired by new owners who have overhauled the design and promise to reclaim Market House's reputation as a 'vibrant entertainment hub'.
“We’re really proud to be re-introducing a venue that has been a Brixton staple for many years,” says Jonathan Allen, one of Market House's new owners.
“We’re excited about the new food and drink offering and our music programme will support local promoters and artists as well as international talent.”
Wingmans, which was founded by Ben Ford and David Turofsky in 2015 and has sites in Kilburn and Soho, will take charge of Market House's newly-renovated kitchen, serving a menu that will include buffalo XL sharing plate of wings with blue cheese and celery; and 'sweet and smokey' barbecue wings.
There will also be a range of chicken burgers, and a selection of sides including truffle mac and cheese with beef short rib.
To complement the food will be a selection of craft beers from London Fields Brewery and Brooklyn Brewery, alongside a cocktail menu boasting a mix of classic and more eclectic drink options.
Every night of the week, Market House will offer diverse musical programming, with DJ booths on both floors and a mix of house, disco, hip hop and r&b, as well as funk and soul sessions.
