Jesper Friis is stepping down as CEO of New World Trading Company (NWTC) in order to return to Denmark with his family.

CFO Jim Pickworth, COO Natasha Waterfield and property director Tim McCormac will be managing the business for the time being, with support from the board.

A NWTC spokesperson said: “Jesper has said that it is with a heavy heart he has to say goodbye to one of the most interesting companies he has ever worked for, but he wants and needs to return to Denmark after six years here in the UK.”

“We thank Jesper for his contribution to NWTC over the past two years.”

The Graphite Capital-backed company has opened or plans to launch a number of new sites this year.

NWTC opened The Botanist Ipswich in April and will launch The Botanist Worcester next week.

The brand has also secured a 7,800 sq ft site in Barnsley’s Glass Works development, and construction has begun on an 11,000 sq ft, two-floor, two-bar space in Edinburgh’s St James Shopping Centre.

A further Botanist location has been signed in Durham, while a third Club House venue in Cardiff Bay will also open towards the end of the summer.
