Absurd Bird enters administration

Fried chicken brand Absurd Bird has entered into administration with the closure of its five dine-in restaurants.

The brand is believed to have appointed FRP Advisory as administrators to the business on 1 July, according to a notice on the Gazette public record.

Absurd Bird had restaurants in 3 Stock Exchange, Nelson Mandela Place, Glasgow; 25 Peter Street, London; 54 Commercial Street, London; Guildhall, Exeter; and 27 Albion St, Leeds.

According to Companies House it was controlled by Kbox Global, a UK start-up that turns underused commercial kitchen space into delivery hubs.

A post on Instagram said customers could still order from its virtual restaurants on UberEats and JustEat, suggesting the brand could live on in delivery-only form.

The brand was previously owned by Splendid Hospitality Group, a hotels and KFC franchise business.

A post on Absurd Bird’s TikTok account said: “With a heavy heart we have officially closed our doors.

“I would like to apologise to anyone with a booking that we can no longer fulfill, this decision was unfortunately out of our control.

“Thank you to everyone who has joined us over the last four years for humongous chicken burgers & yummy cocktails, we have loved every minute.”
