Outlaw's New Road reverts to being an exclusive, tasting menu-only affair

Celebrated Port Isaac-based seafood chef Nathan Outlaw is shaking things up at his flagship once again, switching from two seatings in the evening to a single seating that will offer a more expansive and ambitious tasting menu.

The change is something of a backtrack, with the chef having closed the site in mid-2020 to make way for a “more inclusive and accessible” concept called Outlaw’s New Road that initially offered starters from £12 and mains from £26 before switching to a short, keenly-priced set menu.

While the name will remain, from 18 September the seaside restaurant will become more exclusive, reducing its total number of covers to 28 and offering a single £175 seven-ten course tasting menu that will change regularly.

Opening hours will remain the same, with the restaurant offering dinner Tuesday to Saturday and lunch Friday to Saturday.

The change at Nathan Outlaw’s New Road follow the launch of Outlaw’s Guest House, with the chef now offering two-night dine-and-stay packages that see guests dine at both his flagship and the more casual - but still Michelin-starred - Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen.

“We see the changes as a natural progression to what we do currently, and it will give our guests the time and comfort to experience a meal devoted to exhibiting seafood cookery in distinct and memorable ways. We want to show the world just how good the seafood off our coast is,” says Outlaw.

The revised format will allow Outlaw and team to use ‘a better array of luxurious seafood and first-class ingredients’ along with new techniques and methods for seafood preparation.

“We know that with the amendments, we will have the freedom to explore our cuisine without boundaries, and in doing so, fully showcase our expertise,” Outlaw continues.

Originally called Restaurant Nathan Outlaw, Outlaw’s flagship had been located in Port Isaac since 2015, having originally opened further down the coast in Rock in 2008.

Restaurant Nathan Outlaw held two stars for nearly a decade. When it reopened as Outlaw’s New Road it was quickly awarded a single star.
