Oxeye chef-patron Sven-Hanson Britt is opening a sandwich bar that will operate out of his Oxeye and Bar Rex venue in London’s Embassy Gardens.

Called The Sandwich Shack, it will serve a menu of global sandwiches from a hatch, with options set to change on a regular basis.

Launching on Wednesday (18 January), the debut menu will feature six sandwiches competitively priced from £5 to £10.

They are a cheese toastie made with Montgomery cheddar and Reblochon, Worcester sauce and tomato chutney; a chilli tuna cheese featuring tuna mayo with Tabasco, pickled peppers and Montgomery cheddar; a katsu sando of either chicken breast or pumpkin katsu with yuzu kosho slaw on shokupan bread; a pistachio mortadella focaccia; a pambazo - a Mexican sandwich stuffed with chorizo fried potatoes, sour cream, lettuce and guajillo chile salsa; and a slow roast duck wrap made with five-spiced duck legs slow-cooked and wrapped with charred spring onions, pickled cucumber and chilli.

“I get pretty passionate about a good sandwich so stay tuned to see some sandos in action,” says Britt.

The Sandwich Shack will be open on Monday through to Saturday from 11am to 6pm.

Britt opened Oxeye, his long-awaited debut solo restaurant, in the Nine Elms development of Embassy Gardens in October 2021.
