Burmese restaurant Lahpet is to reopen at the former Tapas Revolution site in Shoreditch next month.

The restaurant first appeared as a residency at Maltby Street Market in 2016, before it moved to a more permanent site in London Fields in Hackney.

It has now been refined by founders Dan Anton and Zaw Mahesh, Lahpet’s head chef, and will open on London’s Bethnal Green Road in Shoreditch as a 60-cover restaurant.

Anton and Mahesh say Lahpet takes ‘a more contemporary approach’ to Burmese food by exploring the use and pairing of a wide array of indigenous ingredients to create more innovative dishes.

‘We are bringing Burmese cuisine to the fore by focusing on and adding a touch of refinement to those dishes that are ubiquitous across Myanmar,’ it says on its website.

Menu items will include sweetcorn; shan tofu; and shrimp and watercress fritters as well as pork and mustard green curry; bream with pickled ginger; braised aubergine and hake masala. It will also serve a duo of desserts – poached banana with coconut and jaggery crumble and ice cream.

Leisure property specialists David Coffer Lyons (DCL) secured the deal for the 2,000sq ft ground floor site, with features outside seating.

“Lahpet is a proven concept that has generated significant interest and media accolades from its previous venture in Hackney,” says Rob Meadows, director of agency and leasing at DCL.

“The new site benefits from a large residential catchment and a number of offices in the vicinity and significant leisure draws from Boxpark Shoreditch, Brick Lane and Colombia Road markets. I’m sure we will be hearing lots more from them.”

Tapas Revolution recently announced two new sites in the north west of England in Chester and at Halle Place, the new £11m food quarter at Manchester’s Arndale scheme.
