Gary Usher’s Kala to open in Manchester in February
Gary Usher’s sixth restaurant, Kala, will open on Manchester’s King Street in February, it has been revealed.

In an Instagram post, the restaurant announced that it would be opening its doors in the city centre location early next year, with the chef and restaurateur also posting from his personal account that seeing the restaurant go up in the middle of Manchester made him proud.

The restaurant will join the other sites in the Elite Bistro’s burgeoning portfolio, which includes the newly opened Pinion in Prescot, Wreckfish in Liverpool, Hispi in Didsbury, Sticky Walnut in Chester, and Burnt Truffle in Heswall.

More details of the restaurant’s food is yet to be revealed but it will follow the same bistro style of high quality, good value, unfussy food that has made Usher’s sites so popular. In a separate Instagram post, Kala put up a picture of an octopus dish stating: “we’ll be doing stuff like this”.

Two of Usher’s restaurants appeared in Restaurant magazine’s top 100 places to eat in the UK earlier this year, Hispi, which was ranked at number 46, and Wreckfish, which came in at number 19.

The chef is also due to appear in a Channel 4 documentary that follows the opening of his restaurant Pinion.

Usher has also hinted that he wants to open a small hotel in Manchester next year, although no further details have been revealed.
