Swissotel the Howard's contents to be sold at auction

More than 1,300 lots of items from the five-star hotel, including soft furnishings, crockery and even boilers and generators will be sold off at the two-day auction which takes place on 25 and 26 October at the property in London's Temple Place.

The sale will be webcast over the internet via the Bidspotter platform with viewing available to the public on Monday 24 October and prior to the sale commencing each day at 10.30am.

Auction organisers Pro Auction of Bath said the event would give members of the industry an 'unrivalled opportunity' to purchase the hotel's contents at a fraction of a new replacement cost. Refurbishment of the hotel started 12 months ago with some areas only completed in the last three months, meaning many are nearly new.

Mark Flynn of Pro Auction said: “The auction allows operators to trade up when aspiring to five star standards, the sale presents a rare opportunity to acquire quality assets quickly and cost effectively given such a large newly refurbished 5 star hotel, only becoming available because of site redevelopment. It is possible for bidders to buy the entire contents of the bedrooms with three types of accommodation schemes to attract a variety of buyers and scales of purchase, accommodating the quality of a classic 5 star while also tempting the cutting edge design led operators”.

Swissotel the Howard closed on 30 September London because of a decision by the property's owner to redevelop the site where it has stood for the past 10 years. Staff were relocated to either Swissotel properties or other hotels within the group, which include The Savoy.
