Wyndham Hotel Group will make its debut in Scotland when it opens a luxury, five-star hotel under the Wyndham Hotels and Resorts brand as part of a golf resort near Dundee which features a course designed by Darren Clarke.

The Wyndham Grand The Angus hotel is expected to open in 2015 and will join the Wyndham Grand London Chelsea Harbour hotel as the second property for the US-based operator.

Darren Clarke

As part of the £60m golf venue to be built next to the Forbes of Kingennie Country Resort in Angus, the 187-bedroom hotel will be operated after the hotel group signed a franchise agreement with the project's property developers.

Northern Irish golfer Darren Clarke, who won the 2011 Open Championship, has designed an 18-hole championship course which will be at the heart of the new destination resort while 10 two-bedroom luxury lodges will form part of the hotel and overlook the field of play.

"Expanding our namesake brand within Europe, Middle East and Africa is an integral part of Wyndham Hotel Group’s overall growth strategy," Joel Goldman, Wyndham Hotel Group vice president of development for the UK and Western Europe, said.

"This newest property will serve as an outstanding addition to the collection. We believe that the five-star Wyndham Grand The Angus will offer unrivalled accommodation and service for the area, with excellent leisure and business facilities for golfers and non-golfers alike."

Signature fine dining

As well as the luxury lodges and conference and event facilities, the hotel will feature a pool, Jacuzzi gym, two dance studios and a spa with eight treatment rooms.

The F&B offering will include a 130-cover hotel restaurant, a clubhouse bar for 100 people, a hotel bar with a capacity of 80 and an up to 50-cover restaurant described as offering 'signature fine dining'.

The hotel will fit in the upscale Wyndham Grand sub-brand or collection within the Wyndham Hotels and Resorts brand. The company is currently the largest hotel group worldwide operating more than 7,000 venues including under the Days Inn brand.
