Milan’s Camillo Benso restaurant is coming to Mayfair
The Milanese F&C restaurant group is to launch its first overseas site in London next month.

The company has secured the former Assunta Madre site in Mayfair for the UK debut of its Camillo Benso restaurant – which launched in Milan in 2014.

F&C says the site will offer the same menu “much-loved by the Milanese crowd” at a price point “not often seen” in the Mayfair area.

The bread recipes and production techniques have been designed for Camillo Benso by Italian chef Niko Romito, of three Michelin-starred Reale in Castel Di Sangro, Italy, though BigHospitality understands he has no further involvement in the restaurant for now.

Italian chef Luigi Esposito will head up the kitchen, serving pizzas topped with ingredients imported daily from the Campania region; and fresh pasta such as spaghetti alla nerano (with fried courgettes); and ravioli capresi (filled with cheese, eggs and marjoram).

Drinks and snacks will be on offer at the bar, and the restaurant will host regular live music sessions.

F&C was founded by Antonio Fantini and Massimo Sanita and runs four Milan restaurants, ‘A Storia, Fresco & Cimmino, Giannino and Camillo Benso.

The London opening marks the first overseas venture for the group, which has future sites planned for New York and Miami.

Camillo Benso's Mayfair home at 8-10 Blenheim Street was previously home to another Italian import, the first London outpost of Rome’s Assunta Madre fish restaurant.

It closed last year after its owner Gianni Micalusi was arrested on suspicion of money laundering and fraudulently registering property in his native Italy.
