Aegean restaurant Hovarda is opening second London site, in Wood Wharf.

The new 139-cover restaurant and terrace will occupy the water level deck of a purpose-built pavilion situated on the water right at the centre of Wood Wharf, close to restaurants including Hawksmoor, Dishoom, and the soon-to-open Roe in the area.

It will serve a menu described as an ‘amalgamation’ of dishes inspired by the coastlines of Greece and Turkey with a focus on family-style hot and cold meze plates followed by main dishes showcasing produce from land and sea.

Dishes will include a starter of saganaki (pictured below) - barrel aged feta wrapped in kataifi, covered in truffle honey and topped with basil; taramasalata with bottarga and dill; and tuna tartare served with avocado, cashews and petimizi.

Other signature dishes will include red prawn orzo with a bisque sauce, chilli oil and marjoram; octopus served over a fava bean puree with onion and fennel marmalade; and a traditional lamb kleftiko with sauteed oyster mushrooms.

The interior has been designed by Hurlé&Martín of Madrid with a colour palette of sea green and blue, wood panelling and rich fabrics. It will feature a communal kitchen island, a mix of banquettes and sofa seating set throughout the room, and an eight-metre bar counter. There will also be space for a DJ.

“After my first visit to Hovarda in Soho, I knew Canary Wharf needed a stylish, late-night venue to enhance our vibrant dining and nightlife scene,” says Stuart Fyfe, managing director  Retail Leasing at Canary Wharf Group.

“Their delicious food, creative cocktails, DJ entertainment and chic crowd are sure to be a hit. They’ll soon begin construction on a stunning Spanish-designed interior, drawing inspiration from the Aegean. The autumn opening will complement the diverse restaurants we’ve welcomed to Wood Wharf – Dishoom, Hawksmoor, Mercato Metropolitano, Roe, Mallow and Emilia’s Pasta – and promises to be a major event.”

The first Hovarda opened in Soho in 2017 on Rupert Street.
