Flat Iron has confirmed it will open a restaurant in Manchester this summer over a year after its plans to move to the city were first revealed.

The steakhouse group will open a 150-cover restaurant at 200-204 Deansgate in early summer.

The two-floor restaurant will be housed in a Grade II Listed building that was designed by Charles Heathcote and which first opened to the public in 1908 as the office of the Royal London Friendly Society.

The interiors of the restaurant have been remodelled by architects Macaulay Sinclair with the vision to uncover and display as much of the original building fabric as possible, highlighting any heritage assets and celebrating the architectural features.

Existing plasterwork and cornicing have been exposed and paired with the original timber flooring, original glazed brick walls have been exposed, riveted steel columns revealed, and original parquet flooring restored.

Plans for the restaurant were revealed in April last year.

“Opening a restaurant in my home town of Manchester is a big deal to me and a long time coming," says Flat Iron founder Charlie Carroll.

"The food and drink scene is so exciting at the moment and just keeps getting better. I can’t wait to be a tiny part of it. I fell in love with a beautiful historic building on Deansgate in 2018 and 6 years on we are finally opening this summer.

"Flat Iron is about unpretentious, top quality steak, available to all. I am passionate about delicious beef and proud to bring Flat Iron to the city where I grew up and where so many of my friends and family live.”

The Manchester restaurant will be the group's third site outside of London, joining its sites in Leeds and Cambridge, and its 15th venue in total.

Flat Iron CEO Tom Byng will be part of a panel at Restaurant's next R200 event, which is being held in Manchester on 19 March. For more details and to attend the free event click here.
