Big Mamma looking to open Manchester site
The group, which is behind London restaurants Gloria, Ave Mario, Jacuzzi, Circolo Popolare, and Carlotta, is believed to have found a site within Manchester’s new high-end St Michael’s development in the city.
The development is also set to welcome Japanese-Peruvian restaurant group Chotto Matte, which will open a 450-cover rooftop restaurant at the development in early 2025.
Big Mamma has said that it intends to expand across Europe as well as into the Middle East and the US following its purchase by McWin last year. In its latest financial accounts, Big Mamma said: “The group will leverage the industry experience of the partnership with McWin as well as relying on the support of a well-capitalised and long-term industry investment,” and that it would “push ahead with global expansion plans from Europe today, to the Middle East and United States in the future”.
London-based restaurant groups continue to regard Manchester as fertile territory for growth. In recent years the city has welcomed new openings such as Gordon Ramsay’s Asian restaurant brand Lucky Cat as well as The Ivy and The Ivy Asia.
In recent months Caravan Restaurants and Blacklock also announced that they will make their debut in the city, with steakhouse Flat Iron also set to open in Manchester in the coming months.
