Encant’s Victor Garvey reveals more on second restaurant Rambla

The 60-cover restaurant, set to be at 64 Dean Street, will be considerably bigger than Garvey’s 22-cover Encant, and takes its name from Barcelona street La Rambla – near to where Garvey lived as a child.

Garvey originally intended for the two-storey it to be a second Encant, but as the menu and interior design evolved, he decided to rename it and give it its own distinct identity.

The exact opening date is yet to be revealed.

The menu will focus on Catalan cuisine, and will be split into three sections – Cru, raw and cured; Mar, seafood; and Muntanya, mountains – with typical dishes including fresh Mediterranean sea urchin with Iberico lard toast; jumbo scallop, smoked roe sauce, crystallised veal jus; and ‘bocatta de butifarra negra’ (Catalan black pudding sandwich) with green apple slaw.

There will also be a Spanish wine list available by the glass and the bottle, plus a wide range of gin and tonics, and classic cocktails.

The interior was created by designers Rees Associates, and will aim to be light and atmospheric, recalling the beachfront restaurants of Barcelona.

Garvey said: “I’m really excited to be opening on Dean Street, and hope that Rambla will both contribute to and draw on the street’s incredible energy. The food will be familiar to anyone who knows Catalan cuisine while also being innovative and fun, with great drinks and service to go with it.”

Garvey originally opened his first site as Duende, on Maiden Lane in March this year, before renaming it to Encant (the Catalan word for ‘spell’ or ‘charm’) in October. Garvey grew up in Barcelona and worked in restaurants in Spain, before coming to London to help open tapas site Bravas Tapas in St Katharine’s Docks.
