Simpsons to hold regular 'more relaxed' chef collaborations

Simpsons, the Michelin-starred restaurant near Birmingham, is to hold a series of chef collaborations, following news of the forthcoming one-off dinner with the team of Sticky Walnut.

Luke Tipping, chef director at the Andreas Antona-owned site, told BigHospitality that the business was aiming to run a series of chef collaborations in the coming months, with the aim of one every four weeks.

No other names had been confirmed for the pairings, but Tipping said that the aim was to give the Simpsons team a chance to see how other staff work, allow Simpsons to expand on its established reputation as a high-end, formal restaurant, and showcase a more relaxed style of dining.

The news comes following yesterday’s announcement of a one-off dinner at Simpsons, set for 7 November, which sold 60 tickets in just over two hours. The event will see the team from Gary Usher’s Sticky Walnut travel to Edgbaston and cook a five-course (as yet undecided) menu.

Speaking to BigHospitality today, Tipping said: “We’re planning to have more collaborations in future. Simpsons has got a bit of a reputation as being high-end, a bit stuffy, and with restaurant collaborations like with Sticky Walnut, we can try to break those barriers down. It’s just about good food, good company and just getting on with it. It’s more relaxed; it's not about the pomp and ceremony of food.”
