Curry restaurant industry body Bangladesh Caterers Association (BCA) has announced the contenders for its coveted Caterer of the Year award.

The title will be awarded at the BCA Awards in Westminster Bridge Hotel on 10 October, which will serve the joint purpose of celebrating the BCA’s 50th anniversary.

Nominees have been selected from 10 UK regions by a panel led by curry expert Pat Chapman. In addition, the Association will hand out three BCA Honour awards and a Lifetime achievement award on the night.

The ceremony will also mark the 200th year since the UK’s first curry house was opened, in Portman Square London in 1810.

Bajloor Rashid, president of BCA, said: “We feel that this milestone 50th anniversary provides us with an excellent opportunity to celebrate the past, and highlight over five decades of hard work, personal sacrifice, and significant success in creating and protecting this national treasure of ours, now part of British heritage as well.”
