A new event in Scotland called Taste for Tourism is aiming to brand the country as a global food destination.

It has been organised by Food from Argyll, Argyll & the Isles Toursism Co-operative, and Highlands and Islands Enterprise, with support from other partners.

The event, which will be held in November in Oban, Scotland, will host food and drink producers and tourism businesses with the aim of developing Scotland into one of the world’s top tourist destinations for those who want good food and high culture.

Attendees will discuss further ways of increasing food tourism in Scotland and will be spoken to by a series of international speakers including Rebecca LeHeup, executive director of Ontario Culinary Tourism Alliance, who has a history of developing tourism products including Prince Edward County’s award-winning Taste Trail.

Calum Ross, director of Argyll & the Isles Tourism Co-operative Ltd, said: “Food and drink already accounts for one in every five pounds spent by visitors to Scotland, and that could be even higher if hotels, tour operators and other tourism stakeholders work together with producers to highlight the wealth of excellent food and drink that is on offer and to share our wonderful traditions.

“By building Scotland’s reputation as a food destination, we can also enhance the value of an already thriving food sector.”

The main event will take place on 4th​ November, but optional ‘behind the scenes flavour tours’ will run on 3rd​ November, and there is an optional trip to Mull on 5th​ November.
