UCC boosts coffee range with orangutan conservation in mind
UCC Coffee UK & Ireland has added two new coffees to its range – Grand Crü version 2.4 and Orang Utan.

Product details:

Described as the pinnacle of UCC’s coffee range, Grand Crü version 2.4 is made up of three speciality coffees from this season’s crop – Mexico Finca Muxbal, Nicaragua Finca El Bosque and Kenya Thiriku AB. Each of the individual coffees were selected in a series of blind tastings.

A 100 per cent Arabica, single origin, single estate coffee, Orang Utan Coffee was born from a mission to save the rapidly declining rainforest habitat of the Sumatran orangutan.

USP:

At the start of each coffee producing season, Grand Crü is reviewed and a new seasonal version created. This, according to UCC, ensures a distinctive taste profile – with this year’s version said to offer sugarcane sweetness, with notes of plum and dates. With milk, the fruit gives way to toffee notes.

Exclusive to UCC in the UK, Orang Utan provides funding for local farmers and the Orang Utan Coffee Project. For each kilogram of green coffee produced, the farmer receives a premium and a donation is made to the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation project.

Claimed to be a balanced, medium bodied coffee with chocolate and cherry top notes and hints of date and rose hips, Orang Utan was launched exclusively in Waitrose last year.

Why you should buy it:

Elaine Higginson, managing director for UCC Coffee UK & Ireland, said: “These two new coffees are very different but are both full of character, complexity and extraordinary flavour.

“The launch of both Orang Utan Coffee and our new Grand Crü blend is part of our ongoing commitment to deliver great coffee that’s seasonal, on trend and meets the high demands of today’s consumers.”
