Legs restaurant and wine bar from Magnus Reid to open

Legs, a new wine-focused bar and restaurant from Australian chef Magnus Reid, is to open in London’s Hackney this 19 May.

Named for wine terminology, which calls the droplets on the inside of a wine glass “legs”, the name is also a nod to the local fashionable area of Hackney Wick.

Located at 120 Morning Lane and currently undergoing a complete renovation,  the venture is backed by technology industry veteran Andy Kanter and is the brainchild of Reid, founder of coffee brand C.R.E.A.M. and the former Rooftop Cafe in London Bridge, who has recently opened venues in Shoreditch (Tuckshop) and New York.

The new site is hoping to attract locals, offering simple lunch and dinner and dinner plates. It will aim to offer a light, casual space for meals, alongside a downstairs “makers’ basement”, where the team will create the site’s own cured meats, pickles, and vermouth for the bar.

Typical dishes will include a roll with suckling pig and chilli jam, smoked aubergine with couscous and dried fruits, smoked haddock with clams, burrata with pickled watermelon, and desserts such as camomile granita with roasted oats and milk ice cream.

Having moved to London from Perth, Australia to focus on cooking, Reid has also previously worked at St. John and the Hackney Pearl, before opening a series of food pop-ups.
