Burger brand Shake Shack will open its second London restaurant at Westfield Stratford in mid-2015.

Located on ‘The Street’, the new venue will offer Shake Shack favourites including the ShackBurger (cheese, lettuce, tomato, ShackSauce, and buttered, toasted, soft potato roll), SmokeShack (burger with Wiltshire-cured smoked bacon and cherry peppers), ShroomBurger and Shack-cago Dog.

Burgers will be made with freshly ground 100 per cent Scottish Aberdeen Angus beef, hot dogs with Cumberland sausages, and most of the ingredients on the menu will be sourced in the UK.

Shake Shack’s frozen custard, spun fresh daily at the restaurant, will be featured in shakes and concretes.

Brooklyn bowling alleys

The venue’s interiors will includerecyclable and sustainable materials, with reclaimed bowling alleys handcrafted in Brooklyn and retired rooftop water towers from Manhattan.

The new opening will create 100 jobs, and Shake Shack also plans to work with the London Lions basketball team, partner with local vendors for sourcing and support youth in the local Stratford area.

Nigel Sherwood, business director of Shake Shack UK, said: “This is an area of London where we can really help to make a difference and continue Shake Shack’s mission to ‘Stand for Something Good’.”

London fans

The new restaurant will open two years after the first London Shake Shack launched in Covent Garden, and marks the beginning of a UK roll-out for the brand. Sherwood told BigHospitality's sister magazine M&C Report that Westfield Stratford would be "a springboard" for the brand in the UK.

“Ever since we opened in Covent Garden, we’ve been humbled by the passionate response from Londoners. With fans packing our Shack daily, we thought it was about time we built another Shake Shack. Westfield Stratford City feels like the right place and the right time,” added Randy Garutti, Shake Shack CEO.

“We can’t get enough of London’s booming food culture and we’re looking forward to deepening our roots with our fans, local farmers, artisanal producers and community.”

The US ‘roadside burger’ brand is part of Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG), which owns and operates a number of restaurants in New York City: Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern, The Modern at the Museum of Modern Art, Maialino, North End Grill, Blue Smoke, Jazz Standard, and Untitled at the Whitney.

Shake Shack now has multiple locations in New York, Washington DC, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Florida, Massachusetts, and international locations including London, Istanbul, Dubai, and more.
