The hospitality industry may be about providing food, drink, accommodation and service, but sometimes you have to go the extra mile to pull customers in. If you’re stuck for ideas on how to make your business more appealing take a look at what others are doing for inspiration.

Guest Chefs at The Pass

Matt Gillan, head chef at The Pass restaurant at Horsham’s South Lodge Hotel has invited a number of up-and-coming chefs from restaurants outside London to join him in the kitchen from September 21 to 23. Brothers Jonray and Peter Sanchez from Casamia in Bristol will create their signature innovative Italian-style dishes with Gillan on the Monday while James Graham from Allium in Gloucestershire will be there on the Tuesday. Wednesday night welcomes Michael Bremnar of Due South in Brighton. Each guest chef will create a six-course menu which costs £100pp, including a wine flight and food demonstration.

Theatre partnership

Future Inn in Plymouth has entered into a strategic partnership with Theatre Royal Plymouth to offer special deals to customers using both facilities. The year-long partnership enables the hotel's guests to gain discounted tickets for the theatre's show while theatregoers will be given 25 per cent off pre-theatre meals at Future Inn's Fishwork's restaurant. The initiative, which both businesses hope will boost visitor numbers to the city, also gives discounted rates on conference facilities and hotel rooms to the theatre's corporate sponsors.

Pub quiz at Giraffe

The Battersea branch of world food restaurant Giraffe will be hosting a pub-style quiz with a global theme on September 17 to tune into the growing trend for mid-week quizzes. Teams of four are being invited to take part with a £100 voucher to spend in the restaurant offered as the prize to the winning team. The quiz involves 40 questions and includes a half-time break when diners will be able to order food from the and order drinks off the restaurant's international drinks menu.

Opera

Bar 190 at South Kensington's Gore Hotel will be playing on its theatrical ambiance by hosting a series of opera nights through autumn into winter. The theatrical-style bar, which features a Cinderella carriage, will host its first performance by Oyster Opera on September 24. Entry is free to customers who will be able to choose drinks from the bar's extensive cocktail list and food from the tapas menu during the performance.
