Chef Heinz Beck is returning to London next month to launch a restaurant at Brown’s Hotel in Mayfair.

Beck, who has run three-Michelin-starred La Pergola in Rome since 1994, will open Beck at Brown’s on the former site of Hix Mayfair on 16 April.

It follows months of speculation the German-born chef would open at the hotel after he took on a six-week residency at the site last December. He previously ran the Michelin-starred Apsley’s at London's Lanesborough Hotel from 2009-13.

Beck at Brown’s is described as offering a casual dining menu, likely to be more in-tune with the chef's recently-opened informal Rome restaurant Attimi than the three-star La Pergola.

The menu will showcase dishes from across Italy, beginning with small plates such as roasted veal sweetbreads with fava beans, peas and artichokes (£17).

This will be followed by house-made pasta dishes including spaghetti cacao e pepe with lime-marinated langoustine (£24); risotto with aged parmesan, artichokes and olive oil (£19); and meat and fish plates such as red mullet ‘sandwich’ with black olive and tarragon (£21); and aged rhug estate striploin with truffle mash and rosemary sauce (to share for £80).

For dessert expect a selection of British and Italian cheese served with dried fruit (£16); and homemade ice cream and sorbet.

“I’m excited to return to London after my residency last year and bring with me some of my favourite dishes and, of course, some new creations using the best of British produce,” says Beck.

“It’s an honour to have my own kitchen in such an illustrious hotel, with a new modern dining room that reflects the colours of Italy and the heritage of Italian cooking.”

The site, which now has its own entrance on Mayfair’s Albermarle Street, has undergone a complete redesign to split the space in to a bar, dining and private dining space separated by ornamental bronze screens.
