Gordon Ramsay will open a restaurant that pays homage to famed French chef Georges Auguste Escoffier at The Savoy hotel next month.

Restaurant 1890 by Gordon Ramsay will be the chef’s third restaurant at the London hotel and will open on 23 February. Named after the year that Escoffier joined hotel it will have just 26 covers and will be open Wednesday to Saturday with two dinner sittings.

The kitchen will be overseen by executive head chef James Sharp, previously senior sous chef at Pétrus by Gordon Ramsay, with a £110 tasting menu of ‘seasonal modern French with European influences’ being served.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to run an intimate tasting menu restaurant in such a beautiful location,” says Sharp.

Sarah Rhone, previously general manager at Phil Howard and Rebecca Mascarenhas' Elystan Street, has been appointed general manager with Emanuel Pesqueira as its head sommelier.

“It’s the third gastronomic jewel operated by our restaurant group at The Savoy and we’re incredibly excited to offer this new experience,” says Ramsay.

The restaurant will be located next to the American Bar overlooking the hotel entrance in what was previously the D’Oyly Carte room. The space was also once home to Marcus Wareing’s American diner inspired restaurant Banquette.

“With 1890, our third exciting collaboration with Gordon Ramsay Restaurants, our guests will have a wonderfully contrasting choice of restaurants within The Savoy,” says Franck Arnold, The Savoy’s managing director.

“Aesthetically stunning, with an elevated menu as befits its surroundings, 1890 reflects The Savoy’s history of providing luxurious, innovative experiences and we are very much looking forward to its opening.”

Ramsay already operates Savoy Grill, which he took over in 2003, and the recently opened River Restaurant at the hotel.
