StreetSmart puts out the call for new restaurant partners ahead of 2022 campaign

Homeless charity StreetSmart is on the hunt for new restaurant partners to join its annual Christmas campaign to raise vital funds to support people living on the streets.

More than 350 restaurants across the country have already signed up to take part in this year's campaign, which kicks off on 1 November and gives diners the option to add a voluntary £1 per table donation to their bills during November and December.

Restaurants helped raise nearly £700,000 between them for the charity last year. All money raised through the scheme contributes to 'achieving impactful social change by supporting people rough sleeping and those in unsuitable accommodation'.

Chef Jeremy Lee of Soho members' club and restaurant Quo Vadis, which backs the campaign, said: “StreetSmart’s secret is that it's dead simple.

“Today we can feel far too busy and serious to do anything, but with this tiny effort you can end up with a large lump sum after Christmas. It's a small gesture for a big problem.”

Joining for the first time are Amethyst, Caravel and Manteca in London, The Palmerston in Edinburgh and POLI in Birmingham, with 100% of the funds raised in each city going to support the homeless locally.

StreetSmart has raised more than £11m since its foundation in 1998, and 100% of what is raised goes to help those in need as the campaign costs are covered by StreetSmart’s partner LandAid, a property industry charity working to end youth homelessness in the UK.

More than 50 UK homelessness charities now benefit each year, with funds supporting services in housing, mental health advice, training and job support as well as organisations providing a safe place to sleep for the night.

StreetSmart is continually looking for new partners to come on board and unite to help tackle homelessness in UK cities. For those interested in taking part, the registration form can be found here.
