Further train strike day announced
The train driver’s union decision to strike for 24 hours over pay and conditions will wipe out most trains for five consecutive days.
Services across Britain will be affected, including commuter routes into London and longdistance services.
The action, Aslef’s sixth national strike since July, will come towards the end of four weeks of disruption led by the RMT, along with the TSSA union.
UKHospitality has warned that this month’s rail strikes, which are taking place in the run-up to Christmas, will cost the hospitality industry £1.5bn in lost sales.
The trade body says the level of disruption caused will be similar to that created by the surge of the Omicron Covid-19 variant last year.
Rail strikes aren't the only industrial action set to affect hospitality over the winter period.
Almost 400 workers working for food logistics company Best Food, which delivers to the likes of KFC, Burger King and Wagamama, are set to strike having rejected the company’s latest pay offer.
It comes after the workers, who also deliver fresh food to the likes of Pizza Express, Pizza Hut and Zizzi, turned down a 6% pay increase offer last month, which the union previously said would amount to a real terms pay cut.
