Amy Poon’s Wontoneria will launch a three-month residency at Carousel’s incubator space No. 23 Charlotte Street this February.

The daughter of famed chef restaurateur Bill Poon originally launched Wontoneria as a pop-up at Stevie Parle’s JOY at Portobello in 2021 before launching a successful nationwide delivery service.

The residency follows Poon’s two-night supper club series at the Fitzrovia venue to mark Chinese New Year earlier this month.

No.23, Carousel’s dedicated pop-up space, previously hosted successful residencies by cult US burger brand Lucky Buns and lockdown success story Goila Butter Chicken.

As the name suggests, Wontoneria’s menu will be focused on Poon’s signature handmade wontons in chilli vinegar dressing.

Five varieties will be available: Pork (pork and bamboo shoot); chicken (chicken thigh, woodear mushroom, water chestnut, ginger); prawn (prawns and bamboo shoot); and vegetable; Prawn (prawns and bamboo shoot); and vegetable (jackfruit, tofu, cabbage, carrot, woodear mushroom, water chestnut).

These will sit alongside a daily lunch special, the wonton noodle bowl, combining a smaller portion of wontons with egg noodles and greens ‘for a restorative midday meal’.

Open Tuesday to Saturday, 11.30-3pm, all dishes will be available to have either at the 16-seater counter at No.23 or to take away.

Also available for purchase will be Poon’s Chinese pantry items, including fiery Extraordinary Chilli Oil, Chilli Vinegar Dressing, WO Sauce - Poons’ take on XO sauce - and Premium First Extract Soy Sauce.

Poon relaunched Poon's as a pop-up in 2018and is understood to be looking to bring her family's restaurant brand back.

Her father launched the first Poon's restaurant in Chinatown in 1973 and later attracted a Michelin star for his cooking at the group's Covent Garden site.

The business grew to seven location in its 1980s heyday, including a restaurant in Switzerland.
