Greggs has opened its first airport site in Cardiff in partnership with SSP, marking the next milestone in the QSR bakery brand’s strategy to expand in travel hub locations.

Greggs opened the new unit, on the first floor at Cardiff Airport (pre-security) last week, with the menu featuring its sausage rolls and range of savouries, sandwiches, sweet bakery goods and drinks.

“Greggs will feature prominently within our refreshed main terminal landside area; the shop will be a great addition to the airport and compliment the facilities located after security for passengers,” Lee Smith, head of business development, SSP, said.

Greggs commercial director, Malcolm Copland, added: “We are delighted to open another shop with SSP. We know that high quality food-on-the-go and convenience go hand in hand, and this shop at Cardiff Airport gives us the opportunity to bring our range of products to more customers in an exciting new location.”

Kari Daniels, CEO SSP UK & Ireland, said its first unit with Greggs in an airport environment was 'a welcome next step in our partnership and we’re confident that international guests at the airport will fully embrace the offer'.

Reporting its preliminary results for the year to 31 December 2022 in March, Greggs said it was confident in the medium-term opportunity to become a significantly larger multichannel business, and saw 'a clear opportunity for significantly more than 3,000 UK shops in time'.
