More than 550 restaurants sign up to StreetSmart as it launches 2023 campaign
The campaign, which is now in its 25th year, gives diners the option to add a voluntary £1 per table donation to their bills over November and December.
Restaurants helped raise £750,000 between them for the charity last year. All money raised through the scheme contributes to 'achieving impactful social change by supporting people rough sleeping and those in unsuitable accommodation'.
In total, 560 restaurants across the UK have signed up to this year’s campaign. They include Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck in Bray; Simpsons Restaurant in Birmingham; Moor Hall in Lancashire; Mana in Manchester; and The Grill by Tom Booton at The Dorchester hotel in London’s Mayfair.
“I’m so happy to be supporting the amazing StreetSmart charity again this year,” says Luke Tipping, chef director of Simpsons Restaurant.
“We’ve been involved for twenty years, it’s wonderful seeing so many fantastic restaurants on board all over the country, all being able to help those less fortunate than ourselves.”
Other operators to get involved in this year’s campaign include nationwide groups D&D London, Burger & Lobster and MEATliquor.
StreetSmart has raised more than £12m since its foundation in 1998, and 100% of what is raised goes to help those in need as the campaign costs are covered by StreetSmart’s partner LandAid, a property industry charity working to end youth homelessness in the UK.
More than 50 UK homelessness charities now benefit each year, with funds supporting services in housing, mental health advice, training and job support as well as organisations providing a safe place to sleep for the night.
