Toptable has given out its first Scotland restaurant awards

RESTAURANT booking website Toptable has collated ratings and reviews from users and come up with awards for the best restaurants in Scotland with Michelin-starred Martin Wishart coming top of the pile.

The reviews covered the 260 Scottish restaurants listed on the site, and awards were given in seven categories including best food, best service, most popular and best toilets.

Toptable is the biggest free restaurant booking service, and is visited 2.2 million times a month, generating £86 million in revenue for UK restaurants in 2008.

Wishart’s Leith eaterie claimed top spot in three of the seven categories - best overall rating, best food and best service.

Glasgow’s India Quay took most popular, and The Prime Cuts in Aberdeen collected best toilets.

Martin Wishart said: “We are proud to be recognised as one of the finest dining establishments in the UK - as voted for by the customers themselves.

“It is always a fantastic achievement to receive recognition in awards such as these. It is a real testament to the hard work of myself, my kitchen and my front of house staff."

Tony Fasson, head of toptable.com in Scotland, said: “These awards are special because they are the views of the customers themselves and not those of restaurant critics. They say the customer is always right and that’s why these awards are so sought after.

“Each of the restaurants to make it into the Top 10 in each category should be absolutely delighted as they are pleasing the most important people in their business – the customer.”
