Rockliffe Hall, the five star luxury hotel and spa that opened in County Durham last month, has appointed Peter Llewellyn hotel manager.

Llewellyn, who has worked at Claridge's, Chewton Glen and more recently the Thistle hotel in Middlesbrough, will be responsible for running the hotel side of the Hurworth resort, including all front of house operations, room bookings and housekeeping.

In his role, Llewellyn will also oversee the food and beverage operations, including Kenny Atkinson at the Orangery restaurant.

He said: "I’ve been aware of Rockliffe Hall for some time now and have kept a close eye on the progress. I knew it would be the ideal environment for me to work alongside the esteemed team.

"I hope that my experience, passion and drive, as well as my meticulous attention to detail, will help to create an environment of the highest quality of service and standards that will supersede the expectations of our guests."

The independently-owned Rockliffe Hall Hotel, built on the site of a disused 18th Century county hall, opened on 23 November following a multi-million pound investment. The resort includes a spa and a golf club, which opened in the summer.

Llewellyn added: "Rockliffe Hall is the new standard-bearer for quality resorts not only here in the North East but in the UK. I’m determined to position us firmly on the map as the best resort in the North East and as one of the top premier destinations in the UK."
