Smithfields’ Vinoteca to open second restaurant in Marylebone

Founders Charlie Young and Brett Woonton have secured a 20-year lease on a 2,600 sq ft unit at Seymour Place, a previously unoccupied space.

It is thought the venue will serve a similar offer to its Smithfield site, which was inspired by the wine bars of Spain and Italy.

Serving a seasonal British and European menu, with produce sourced form the nearby Smithfields market, Vinoteca also serves around 285 mostly European wines, with 25 by the glass.

Head chef John Murray, formerly of St. John Bread and Wine, Petrus and L’Autre Pied, is expected to recreate the menu at Smithfields with dishes such as Pan Seared Guinea Fowl Breast with Soft Polenta, Heritage Tomato and Parmesan; Chargrilled Bavette with Chorizo Butter, Chips and Smoked Ketchup; and Homemade Tagliatelle with Pesto, Yellow Courgette, Buffalo Mozzarella and Basil.

Josh Leon of DCL, who acted on behalf of landlord The Portman Estate in the letting to Vinoteca, said: “Smithfields and Marylebone are poles apart in many senses but the business idea is simple, well executed and with wide appeal so there’s no doubt that Charlie’s and Brett’s passion will shine through to a new fan base.

“The location is rapidly getting a name for itself as a peaceful enclave catering to more specialist tastes than what is found in the nearby Oxford Street, Bond Street, Marylebone High Street and Selfridges. The estate is breathing new life into Portman Village, to which Seymour Place is a central part, and they want each one of the businesses on the street to draw new people into this beautifully restored environment.”
