Hilton has claimed it will create an extra 1,500 jobs in the industry by 2014 with the opening of 20 new hotels expected to happen in the next two years.

The company also said it hoped to safeguard the careers of 1,900 people employed at hotels it has recently bought and will convert to the Hilton Worldwide portfolio, including the Mint Hotel group, acquired from Blackstone earlier this month.

Simon Vincent, area president for Europe said: "While unemployment figures in Europe continue to rise, Hilton Worldwide is experiencing an exciting period of growth which will see us continue to offer a wealth of rewarding career options.

"As owners and developers continue to affiliate with our world-class brands, attracting, retaining and developing the best people is paramount. We strive to be industry-leaders in this regard and we are working hard to make sure this excellence continues as we grow.”

Across Europe Hilton expects to create 8,500 jobs in total with the UK, Russia, Turkey, Germany and Poland key markets for major growth.

It plans to open a further 110 hotels in Europe by 2014 with hotels due to open in the UK in the next year including DoubleTree by Hilton in Lincoln, and Hilton St George’s Park in Burton on Trent.

Career opportunities

Currently Hilton employs 30,000 people across the globe with career opportunities in a range of areas, such as sales and marketing and even engineering and construction. However, the majority are in hospitality with opportunities working front-of-house and food and beverage key.

The company also supports the Government’s Get Britain Working campaign, providing 100 placements at hotels around the country to unemployed young people and provides apprenticeships for 60 chefs each year through its Chef Apprenticeship Academy.

Its 18 month graduate training scheme, Elevator, is part of its efforts to develop its staff with participants usually fast-tracked to senior positions and its e-learning facility Hilton Worldwide University, offers more than 2,000 courses to staff across the globe.
