The Craft Guild of Chefs has added Military Chef of the year to its category list for the 2012 Craft Guild of Chefs Awards, to recognise the individuals in charge of feeding the Armed Forces.

The new category brings the number of UK chefs who will be honoured at the awards ceremony at Wembley Stadium in June 2012, to 15.

Craft Guild of Chefs vice president Steve Munkley said the organisation thought it was time to recognise the skills involved in feeding the country's military personnel within such a demanding sector.

“We are looking for someone who has had an outstanding career and achieved excellence over many years of service, or has shown dedication over and above the call of duty in a situation,” he said.

“If you know of a military chef that fits this bill who you believe should be held up as a shining example, we are now inviting nominations for this overdue award."

The new category joins the existing categories of: Apprentice Chef, Banqueting Chef, Competition Chef, Contract Catering Chef, Cost Sector Chef, Development Chef, Education Chef, Ethnic Chef, New Restaurant of the Year Chef, Pastry Chef, People Choice, Pub Restaurant Chef, Restaurant Chef and Young Chef.
