Seasonal British food champion Mark Hix is to move away from his signature style at his latest venue - HIX Belgravia - to serve a menu with an international focus.

The chef, renowned for his original take on British gastronomy, is taking a different route with the 80-cover restaurant at Belgraves, A Thompson Hotel and will serve a menu featuring dishes inspired by his travels from around the world.

He said: "We've had fun with the menu and are going 'off-piste' as I like to say, so if you're expecting my signature British style then think again."

The restaurant will include Mark’s Bar, named after the chef's famous Soho bar as well as a cigar garden featuring commissioned artwork by British artist Mat Collishaw.

Set to open in January 2012 the 85-bedroom hotel which will house Hix's restaurant will mark the Thompson Hotel Group's arrival in the UK. The company, owned by Larry, Michael and Jason Pomeranc and Stephen Brandman, will open the hotel under a joint venture with The Harilela Group.

Thompson Hotels' small, elite hotels include 60 Thompson in New York and Hollywood Roosevelt in Los Angeles. All have a 'bohemian and edgy' feel to their style.

Thompson Hotels co-owner Jason Pomeranc said “Marrying Hix and Thompson Hotels is an exceptional offering which perfectly epitomises the philosophy of Belgraves, A Thompson Hotel – to blend traditional British hospitality with an American bohemian attitude’.

HIX Belgravia will be Hix's fifth restaurant to open in the capital, following HIX, Hix Oyster & Chop House, HIX at the Albermale and HIX at Selfridge's. The chef also owns Mark's Bar in London and Hix Oyster & Fish House in Dorset.
