Fresh from opening his football-themed restaurant with former teammate Gary Neville, Manchester United star Ryan Giggs has launched a new, premium dining destination in Worsley.

George’s Dining Room and Bar, which officially opened last Thursday (23 January) is the creation of Giggs and his school friends; solicitor Kelvin Gregory and restaurateur Bernie Taylor.

The 130-cover, two-tier venue is based on the site of Italian restaurant Milan - which the trio previously owned – in the centre of the village. It now features an entirely new layout and décor, a new food and drink offering and new staff.

The restaurant takes a modern British focus, with new menus created by head chef Andrew Parker, who comes in from The Devonshire Arms. The addition of an outside terrace allows for alfresco dining in the summer, and a private dining room is available year-round for up to 12 diners.

Giggs, who opened Café Football in Westfield Stratford last month, said: “Obviously I am better known for my day job, but I have recently become involved in the hospitality industry.

“For me it is much more than simply putting my name to something. We are all very hands on and enthusiastic about what we have to offer at George’s and I hope all our guests feel the same way too.”

Wooing Worsley

His friend and business partner Gregory added: “We have known each other since junior school and have often discussed opening our own restaurant together. We love our food and dining out and always said it would be great to have somewhere in Worsley that we could share this passion.

“We believe George’s is unlike anything else on offer in the village and we just hope the local residents enjoy it as much as we do.”

George’s is named after Sir George Gilbert Scott, the Victorian architect behind the village’s iconic St Mark’s Church. Offering seasonal, locally sourced produce, Parker will serve up signature steaks cooked on a flame grill, alongside a road variety of starters, brunch, mains, a children’s menu and afternoon tea. Giggs, Gregory and Taylor are all said to be ‘very hands on’ with the business, with Taylor concluding: “‘I have been in the restaurant business all my life and was lucky enough to have owned different establishments in Worsley. I know people in the village enjoy good food and fine dining and I am pleased that so many have shown their support for our new venture. We want George’s to be a local restaurant, for local people.”
