Thai Leisure Group (TLG), which operates the Chaophraya and Thaikhun brands, has reiterated plans to launch in London after a successful year of growth, with like-for-like sales up 9 per cent over the last 12 months.

The group, which is currently in advanced talks with the Business Growth Fund regarding new investment, said it had a current turnover, annualised on existing sites, of £25m and that it served over 20,000 customers per week.

The company said it had a number of new openings planned over the coming months.

The 11-strong group said it was particularly keen to further roll out the two-strong Thaikhun format, with London a main focus, alongside other tier one city locations.

The company, which is led by founders Kim Kaewkraikhot and Martin Stead, currently operates 11 restaurants and four cocktail bars across the north of England and Scotland.

Kaewkraikhot said: “It is an exciting time for us at the Thai Leisure Group with a number of new openings planned over the coming months. Due to our successful growth in the north of England and Scotland, we think it’s time to look towards the capital as a priority, but we are also looking at sites across the UK so that as many areas as possible can finally have access to our authentic Thai offering.

“It’s great to be able to provide such a unique experience to diners with the launch of our street food restaurant Thaikhun, delivering Thai eating just as you can on the streets of Bangkok. From my closely guarded secret recipe for Phad Thai, to my partner Martin’s favourite dish, The Khao Ka Moo dish (five-spiced pork on rice), every dish we choose and every recipe I develop has a special story behind it that we can’t wait to share with even more diners.”
