Pub operator London Village Inns has taken over the franchise of Punch Taverns’ Westbury in Wood Green, and will reopen it in October after a £400k refurbishment.

The transformation, which starts on 25 August, will turn the venue into a quality local with classic pub food, craft beers and ciders and a focus on service.

London Village Inns managing director Martin Harley said: “We’re proud to bring The Westbury into our portfolio. The pub is in an up-and-coming area and we have exciting plans to restore it to its former glory.

“There won’t be any gimmicks; this is all about stripping the pub back to what makes it a great local.  A focus on quality beers, specialising in real ale and cider, combined with a quality pub menu, great service and good conversation.”

Food and drink

The food menu will include burgers and fish and chips, but also salt and pepper calamari with a spiced tomato chilli dip, pulled pork bap with mustard beer sauce and a German Sausage Platter, with Bratwurst, Brockwurst, Beef and Paprika, Pickled Cabbage, Creamy Beer Mustard and a selection of breads, for sharing.

In terms of drinks, The Westbury will offer a craft beer selection ranging from light pale ales to strong stouts and porters, for a total of at least six ales and regular guest ales.

“We want to cater for a variety of taste buds, strengths and styles with our beer offer designed to appeal to the beer aficionado and regular pub goers looking for a pint in a friendly atmosphere. We also want to support local brewers so will be stocking ales from Redemption, which is only a mile from the pub,” added Martin.

Remodelling

The refurbishment will also include a remodelling of the bar area to include an open kitchen, as well as complete internal redecoration.

Punch’s regional operations director Stuart Ewen said: “The Harleys are strong operators and this will be their second pub with Punch Taverns.  We’re confident that the pairing of a strong food and drink offer together with a stripped back offer will make The Westbury a real London local pub.”

Led by Martin and Diane Harley, London Village Inns already operates The Wrestlers in Highgate, as well as The Bronswood, The Crown and Anchor, The Rose and Crown and Jolly Butchers in Stoke Newington.
