Venezuelan operator Arepa & Co is to open a second London restaurant on the former site of Robin Gill’s Paradise Garage.

Husband and wife team Gus and Kathe Cunin have taken on the space in the Paradise Row arches in Bethnal Green for their new opening next month.

It comes after Gill closed his Paradise Garage restaurant in late 2017 to focus on other projects.

The Cunin’s opened the first Arepa & Co in Haggerston in 2014 in a bid to create a “home away from home” for the Venezuelan community in London.

Their second restaurant will feature new dishes including Pabellón (shredded beef with black beans, fried plantain, rice and cheese); Tequenos (cheese stuffed pastry with guava sauce); and new arepa fillings such as fried chicken, and soft shell crab with chilli mayo.

There will also be a weekend brunch menu with dishes such as Cachapas 'La Previsora’ - corn pancakes layered with grilled bacon and cheese.

“I’m so proud that I’ve been able to bring the flavours of my home country to London, but I also want to show that Venezuelan cooking can be really creative, not just bound by traditional recipes,” says Gus.

“The new restaurant will be packed with influences from around the world, taking inspiration from our roots and creating something new and exciting around that.”

Arepa & Co Paradise Row will open at the end of March at 254 Paradise Row.
