We round-up the top hospitality stories you might have missed this week
- BrewDog has bought rival craft beer bar chain Draft House for an undisclosed sum. The brewer says it will keep the Draft House brand name, invest in its 14 sites, and may look to open more in future.
- Conviviality, owner of Bibendum wines and Matthew Clark, has announced it is to call in the administrators within two weeks. The company, which supplies over 23,000 restaurants, pubs and hotels, issued profit warnings this month after discovering a £30m unpaid tax bill. It says parts of the company, which employs 2,600 staff, could be sold off.
- Chef Andrew Wong has launched his delivery concept The Chinese Takeaway at Deliveroo Editions in London's Whitechapel. It is part of White Rabbit Fund's operating company Hutch, which also runs Namma by Kricket and Island Poke at the same location. It is thought the concepts could be rolled out as a trio at further Editions' sites going forward.
- In other Deliveroo news, the company is appealing a decision by Brighton and Hove City Council ordering it to close down its 'dark kitchen' in Portslade. The council says Deliveroo does not have the correct planning permission to run its operations from the site, which is "causing harm" to local residents. Deliveroo says it has the same B1 licence at its other Editions kitchens in London, Leeds and Nottingham, which was approved by other councils.
- Martin Carabott, senior sous chef at Ollie Dabbous' Hide in London, has won the 2018 Roux Scholarship. He saw off competition from five other finalists to take the award, which includes £6,000 and the chance to train at a three-star restaurant anywhere in the world.
