The Frog Hoxton will launch at the former Byron site at 45-47 Hoxton Square at the end of July, alongside an outpost of the chef’s sustainable coffee shop Bean & Wheat and new bar concept Iron Stag.
The Frog E1, which opened in 2016 and has since won a Michelin Bib Gourmand, will run its last service on 30 June.
The original Bean & Wheat has been put on the market, almost a year since it launched on Liverpool Street in 2017.
“The Frog E1 was originally supposed to be a test project on a temporary basis, but it became so successful we kept extending the lease,” says Handling. “Now, we want to give it a permanent home to give it the revamp it needs.”
At 60-covers The Frog Hoxton will be a similar size to the Shoreditch site and promises to offer the same “casual fine dining concept” in a more “refined, elevated style.”
Similar a la carte and tasting menus will be on offer, with a bigger focus on sharing plates.
Handling is also teaming up with Rich Woods (aka award-winning bartender The Cocktail Guy) and Matt Whiley (who runs Shoreditch’s Scout bar) for 100-120-cover bar Iron Stag. Open Tuesday-Sunday, it will serve bar snacks and drinks with an emphasis on aged whiskies.
The Hoxton Square project will include a new site for the chef's deli-cafe Bean & Wheat, which will keep its zero-waste ethos by serving sandwiches, salads and more using the leftovers from Handling’s restaurants.
Each of the new ventures will have a separate entrance on three different streets to ensure they are “distinct”.
Handling will oversee all operations at the site, while new executive chef Daniel Watkins will have responsibility for the food offering.
The Frog E1’s current head chef Jamie Park will maintain his role at The Frog Hoxton alongside the rest of the restaurant team.
Handling also runs the Frog by Adam Handling restaurant in Covent Garden, which launched in 2017.
The busy chef is set to oversee the food and beverage operations at The Cadogan Hotel, the long-awaited London debut for the Belmond hotel group, when it launches later this year.
