Northern-based pubco The Inn Collection Group is adding to its portfolio with the purchase of The Pheasant Inn at Bassenthwaite Lake in Cumbria.

The 15-room gastropub will be the 12th venue in The Inn Collection Group’s estate across Northumberland, County Durham, Yorkshire, and Cumbria.

The Pheasant will continue trading before closing for a ‘full-scale’ redevelopment to bring the historic 17th century coaching inn in line with the group’s eat, drink, sleep and explore brand.

The group, which is backed by Alchemy Partners, is also set to this month begin construction of the 40-room The Seaburn Inn on Sunderland seafront. The new development is part of a new strategic direction from The Inn Collection Group to develop a completely freehold estate as it continues to roll out ‘buy and build’ growth plans to more than double its portfolio of pubs with rooms by 2022.

“We are delighted to be starting 2020 with the announcement of this landmark addition to our growing portfolio,” says managing director Sean Donkin.

“We search long and hard for sites that have that extra special quality when it comes to location and offering for our customer base. The Pheasant delivers on every level in terms of address, character and potential.”

“We will be investing significant capital expenditure into this extraordinary venue as we broaden our customer base and long-term presence across the North of England.”

The move follows the recent opening of the group’s debut Lakes venue, the 30-room The Ambleside Inn, located in the town of Ambleside.

Venues in the The Inn Collection Group's estate also include The Hog's Head Inn in Alnwick, Northumberland, The Commissioners Quay Inn in Blyth, Northumberland, The Seaton Lane Inn in Seaton, County Durham, and The King’s Head Inn in Newton under Roseberry, North Yorkshire.
