Devon restaurant The Coach House by Michael Caines, located in the Kentisbury Grange hotel, has closed suddenly due to a ‘major infrastructural fault’ with the property.

The three AA Rosettes restaurant and hotel has closed today (20 February) for an indefinite period, according to the hotel.

In a statement posted on social media, it wrote: ‘We are so sorry but due to unforeseen circumstances and a major infrastructural fault we are having to close both the hotel and restaurant indefinitely’.

Located in a 17th century former coaching house, The Coach House by Michael Caines was awarded three AA Rosettes in 2017 as well as Gold for Restaurant of the Year in the South West Tourism Awards 2016 for the second year running.

“I am shocked and saddened to hear the news of Kentisbury Grange and our thoughts are with the staff and customers,” says Caines.

“Michael Caines Limited has been consulting at the restaurant for several years but has no shares or business interest in the property and therefore we too are shocked to hear the news.

“At this stage we await to hear further updates, but we will work with the team to find alternative employment and facilitate them within our expanding portfolio.”
