Iconic London restaurant Le Caprice to close after 38 years

Caprice Holdings director Jesus Adorno has confirmed that the group’s Le Caprice restaurant in St James’s is to close after nearly 38 years trading.

Adorno - who has overseen the dining room at the Arlington Street restaurant for nearly the whole time it has been open - took to Twitter to confirm a story published yesterday by Bloomberg’s Richard Vines.

In response to a tweet from Piers Morgan - one of the restaurant's numerous celebrity regulars - he said the lease is coming to an end and that his group is in the early stages of finding a new home for the restaurant.

With its Art Deco dining room, Le Caprice is one of London’s most famous celebrity restaurants, rivalled only by The Ivy in Covent Garden, which is also owned by restaurant mogul Richard Caring.

Perhaps most famously, it was a favourite of Princess Diana’s but other celebrity regulars included Mick Jagger and Elizabeth Taylor.

Caprice Holdings is also reported to have closed its Rivington restaurant in Greenwich.

Other restaurants within the group include J Sheekey, Sexy Fish, Balthazar and Scott’s.
