Spanish wine bar group The Tapas Room will open its fifth and largest venue next month in Peckham.

Located in the former hotel and pub The Crown Hotel on Peckham High Street the site is split into two parts with an upstairs dining area overlooking an open plan kitchen and a smaller downstairs bar.

The interior will match The Tapas Room’s other restaurants with high tables and chairs as well as banquette seating.

The venue will host a tasting event on one Wednesday each month where guests can get the chance to sample little known grapes, vineyards and regions of Spain as well as sherry and vermouth.

The south London-based group was founded by Paul Belcher in Tooting in 2017 and opened a second site in Deptford in 2019. Last year it opened venues in Brixton and Battersea during the peak of the pandemic.

“We have been eyeing up an opening in Peckham for a while,” says Belcher.

“We know a lot of our customers from the other sites live around the area and we wanted to bring The Tapas Room to a brand new pocket of London, and one that still has that local feel to it.

“Our aim for Peckham is an accessible, informal restaurant, where people can easily learn about wine, try delicious food, and enjoy a bit of Spain in South London.”
