Greek street food brand The Athenian has entered into a partnership with satellite kitchen network Growth Kitchen that will see up to 10 London delivery kitchens open this year.

The Athenian has already had success at Growth Kitchen’s Balham hub, achieving month-on-month growth in average weekly sales for the past six consecutive months.

Growth Kitchen says that the deal is an opportunity for The Athenian to achieve financial growth without ‘the need for large loans to fund its growth rate’.

More kitchens are expected to open next year under the partnership, including some outside the capital.

“We were looking for a more feasible way to grow our delivery operations. At the same time, we needed a professional, independent partner that shared our growth ambitions and could unlock the best locations with the most demand,” said Tim Vasilakis, Founder & CEO of The Athenian.

“Growth Kitchen’s expansion tool was really impressive and the potential to see areas where people want to order food, but can’t get great supply, alongside other demographic and competitive data will give us the confidence we are growing in the right places and help us scale faster.”

Last year, BigHospitality revealed that The Athenian's estate was reduced by half following the departure of co-owner Neo Christodoulou, who left the business to launch a rival Greek brand called Smashing Plates.

Since then Tim Vasilakis, who founded The Athenian in 2014 as a street food stall and remains director of the business, has been working hard to rebuild the group's portfolio.

The group currently has four bricks and mortar sites across the UK in Victoria, White City, Boxpark Shoreditch and Bristol alongside 13 delivery kitchens nationwide.

The brand also has a number of sites in Europe and will soon launch in the UAE.
