Jason and Irha Atherton are cutting their ties with the New York-based Starr Restaurants group citing a ‘difference in vision’ over their The Clocktower restaurant.

The pair launched the Madison Avenue restaurant in 2015 at The EDITION New York and won a Michelin star two years later.

In a statement, the Athertons said they were proud of what the team had achieved and thanked The EDITION New York, as well as Steven Starr personally ‘for being professional and courteous throughout the partnership’.

They added that they would ‘deeply miss operating a restaurant in New York’ and that they ‘can’t wait to be back in the vibrant city soon’.

The Athertons’ first and only US project, The Clocktower is billed as offering ‘a taste of London in bustling Madison Square Park’. It was well-received, with The New York Times critic Pete Wells giving it a two-star (very good) rating.

Dishes on the menu include Berkshire pork chop with bubble and squeak cake, apple and fennel salad; tandoori chicken with coconut basmati rice, almond, pistachio, raisins, cucumber and cilantro yoghurt; and shepherd’s pie with Montogmery cheddar, parsley and lemon breadcrumbs.

The Athertons’ Social Company group continues to run a number of restaurants overseas in locations including Dubai, China and Greece, alongside its six London restaurants.
