Vegan taco specialist Club Mexicana to open in Spitalfields

The new 70-cover restaurant will open in November in a former gallery, printing press and bank on Commercial Street and will be the brand’s third venue, joining its sites in Soho and within Seven Dials Market in Covent Garden.
The new restaurant will have a bigger all plant-based menu than at its existing sites and will feature Club Mexicana’s classic dishes as well as new ones and a selection of rotating specials. Items will include birria, cheezeburger, and tofish & chips tacos, as well as mini chorizo empanadas and charred seasonal vegetables with habanero peanut salsa.
Desserts will include churros with a dusting of cinnamon sugar and a dark chocolate sauce, and Club Mex Soft Serve, made in house and available in classic organic vanilla, or with Mexican cacao and coffee-infused tequila.
The interior will have exposed brick walls, concrete columns, wooden floorboards, a brushed metal staircase, and floor to ceiling windows with a design that channels a Californian vibe with an orange and blue colour palette as well as a nod to vibrancy of Mexico City. There will also be more playful touches including a large 80s-inspired mirrorball.
“We’ve had such an incredible journey since our Hackney supper club and street food beginnings. Obviously the last few years have been a wild ride too, so I’m super excited about being able to just get back to slinging tacos,” says founder Meriel Armitage.
“Our new restaurant in Spitalfields is a natural next step up from our first brick-and-mortar site in Kingly Court, as it allows us to go bigger than ever before and flex our taco-making muscles, serving up even more dishes and drinks with our unique, colourful Club Mexicana character.”
Club Mexicana was founded by Armitage in 2014 and started out as a supperclub based in east London.
