Manchester's BräuHaus is 'forced to close'

Bavarian style beer house and restaurant BräuHaus in Manchester has closed as a result of an ongoing dispute with landlord.

The venue, based in Urmston, has announced on social media that it had closed following an incident where people attempted to reclaim the premises.

The business says that its landlord has threatened to forfeit the lease on the property ‘on numerous occasions’ over the past two-and-a-half years due to alleged breaches of contract that it has fought off with the help of its legal team, but that things eventually came to a head.

Writing on its Facebook page, it said: “In all honesty, after 5 years of legal battles and literally tens of thousands of pounds spent in the process, we just don’t have the fight in us any longer and decided to remove all our belongings from the building.”

BräuHaus opened in August 2020 on the former Get Chucked site on Flixton Road serving German beers and a range of food that included currywurst, steak frites, schnitzel, hot pretzels and a selection of weiners.

The team also operates nearby beer bar The Assembly, which will continue to operate.

“The Assembly remains open, and we will be amending the opening hours to mirror those of BräuHaus,” the company added.

“We would love it if you could join us over there and lend your support, looks like we’re probably going to have a fair few legal bills to pay in the future.”
