Crowdfund launched to save Margate’s Barletta
Set up by Home Hospitality founder Lauren Barnett and hosted on the Gofundme platform, the campaign is seeking to raise £50,000 ‘to prevent our good friends’ restaurant business from closure’.
According to the page, Ribbe and Berg - who alongside Barletta also run the more recently opened Sète in Cliftonville - have made ‘numerous pleas’ to their bank but it is looking ‘increasingly unlikely’ that the high-profile pair will recoup the money.
Originally launched in Margate’s Dreamland theme park in 2019 following a string of pop-ups from the pair, Barletta moved into the Turner Contemporary last year.
The restaurant offers an eclectic menu alongside a naturally-leaning wine list and a wide selection of baked goods.
In October, the pair launched Sète, a venue inspired by the intimate wine bars of Paris and the South coast of France.
It is currently trading as a wine bar with a limited but freshly-prepared food offer with a full-service restaurant expected to launch to the rear of the space soon.
The pair are well-known in the industry, with Ribbe having co-founded Ladies of Restaurants and founded Good Shift as well as working front of house in a number of London restaurants while Berg cooked at The Quality Chophouse and St John.
