BBQ meat restaurant HotBox and burger brand Nanny Bill’s and are opening in Boxpark’s Croydon site this winter alongside its PlayBox leisure concept.

It will be the second site for Nanny Bill’s, which was founded in 2015 in east London as a food truck and which later opened its first bricks and mortar space at Boxpark Wembley. The restaurant will serve its signature burgers alongside its mac and cheese, and beef brisket croquettes.

HotBox also began life as a street food trader and has had residencies at Street Feast’s Dalston Yard, Battersea Park, Dinerama, Hawker House and Lewisham’s Model Market.

It also had a permanent restaurant in Spitalfields, but that closed earlier this year after its investors pulled out of the business. It was subsequently sold to financier Adhum Carter and continues to operate a location at Market Halls in Victoria.

Dishes on the HotBox menu include slow-cooked brisket, short ribs, and pork ribs alongside a selection of sides and vegetarian options.

Both HotBox and Nanny Bill's are due to open next month on the first floor unit that was formerly occupied by MEATLiquor, which recently vacated the premises.

Boxpark is also bringing the PlayBox leisure concept that debuted at its Wembley site in 2018 to Croydon. Due to open in early 2023, the 3,000sq ft venue will be the biggest PlayBox to date and will feature competitive socialising and immersive gaming such as UV pool tables, table tennis, shuffleboard, glow-pong and air hockey as well as a bar offer.

“The events we run across our various Boxpark locations continue to perform really well and demonstrate the continued appetite among our customers for experiential. Our PlayBox concept has been a roaring success in Wembley and we can’t wait to launch PlayBox to Croydon to add a complementary element to our existing programming,” says Boxpark CEO Simon Champion.

“We’re equally delighted to support the success and growth of Nanny Bill’s and look forward to welcoming them to Croydon as we prepare for the World Cup.”
